  1. Help file for using BATFAXVe ╜ 1994 BATSoftare.

  3. BATFAXVe is a desk accessory that will allow the user to display
  4. STraightFAX┐ fax files using the horizontal and vertical smooth
  5. scroll capabilities of the STe series of computers in medium screen
  6. resolution.
  7.  
  8. By moving the mouse, you can scroll the whole fax very quickly allowing
  9. for easier reading without having to use the "VIEW" feature of
  10. STraightFAX┐.

  12. How to use BATFAXVe:
  13.  
  14. A copywrite prompt will display in the form of an alert box. You
  15. can either CONTINUE or EXIT. If you choose to CONTINUE, a file
  16. selector box will appear in which you enter the fax file name. By
  17. selecting CANCEL, you will return to an exit alert. If the fax file
  18. can not be found, buffer space allocated or a disk operation error
  19. results, an error alert will appear informing you of the error. The
  20. program then returns to an exit alert. Once the fax file has been
  21. sucessfully read, an informational alert box will appear containing
  22. information on the resolution of the fax, the number of lines in the
  23. fax and the amount of space required to process the fax file. If
  24. insuffient system memory, bad data in the fax file, or the file
  25. is not a fax file, an appropriate error alert box will appear before
  26. you return to an exit alert. A final alert box appears to remind
  27. you to move the mouse to scroll the fax on the screen and to press
  28. any mouse button to end the program. The cursor will turn into the
  29. "BEE" while the file is being converted. When the conversion is
  30. finished, the fax will be displayed on the screen. If any error
  31. occured in the conversion process an error alert will appear before
  32. returning to an exit alert.

  34. System requirements:

  36. BATFAXVe only will work on STe systems and in medium resolution.

  38. Memory requirements:
  39.  
  40. A converted fax file takes up significant amounts of memory. Anywhere
  41. from 200,000 bytes to over 500,000; plus space is required for the
  42. inputed fax file. The sum of these two values is the amount of
  43. memory required to run BATFAXVe.
  44.  
  45. Execution time:
  46.  
  47. As of version V1.0, the run-time lengthing decoding is a very slow
  48. process. The next version upgrade will significant speed up this
  49. part of the program. Currently it takes about 1 minute (1040STe) to 
  50. expand a 1188 line fax file. As the resolution of the fax file 
  51. increases, so will the compute time. The decoding of the fax file takes up
  52. almost all the execution time.
